Meet the Governors

Welcome to the Governors' section!

What are Governors?

Governors are similar to Board of Directors and make decisions about how the school is run. The day to day management of the school is the responsibility of the Head Teacher and the governors provide strategic leadership and accountability.

The full governing body meet approximately twice a term and the Standard, Resources and other committees meet for further meetings during the year.

The Governing Body of Langenhoe Community Primary School is made up of: The Head Teacher (Ex-officio), one staff member, one appointed by the local authority, five parent governors (elected by the parents) and four co-opted governors.

Co-opted governors are appointed by the Governing Body and are people who, in the opinion of the Governing Body, have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school.

More about the Governors:

Clare Lauwerys

I have been involved with organisations that benefit my children ever since they were small. I ran a toddler group for years; I was chair of the management committee for a local pre-school school for two years so it seemed a natural progression to join the school governors. I have had two children who attended Langenhoe, and although they are now at secondary school, my passion for supporting the school has not diminished.

I sat on the executive committee for a national charity for over 15 years and served as its chair for 2 years, only stepping down as chair when I went on the lung transplant list (all fit and well now!)

When I’m not doing all of this, I run my own web design business.

Rachel Helliwell-Hughes

I have been a Parent Governor since 2013, I am also the Link training governor, and Vice Chair in training. I run my own business, and live within Langenhoe, and enjoy working very closely with the school.

Beverley Glover

Beverley Glover
I have been a parent governor since February 2014 and have been Chair of the Resources Committee since the end of 2014. I have two children currently at the School and one who is now at secondary school. I really enjoy being a governor and working with the school and the other governors.
By profession I am a chartered accountant and have previously worked with charities, independent  schools and not for profit organisations.

Claire Hudson

I have been a parent governor since May 2015. My daughter attends the school and my son attends the pre-school. I live locally and I’m a working mum – I work as an Account Manager at a local advertising agency.

Nicola Adkins
Nicola JohnsonI joined the Governing Body as a Parent Governor in November 2015, I have two Daughters, one in Langenhoe and the other in Secondary school. I run my own childcare business from home in Layer de la Haye.  My interests include travelling and spending time in the garden with the family and our pets. I look forward to working closely with the school for many years to come.

Jean Howell

I  retired in 2012 after  a career  of 42 years  working  initially in the Primary sector in ILEA and North East Essex. In 1988 I moved into Special Needs teaching at Kingswode Hoe MLD school. During my career I have held responsibility posts for  PE, Science, English, PSHE, Food technology and Social Use of Language Programme. My final role was Assistant  Head Teacher. I have experience  mentoring  both GTPs and NQTs and following retirement  I was employed by Anglia Ruskin University as a Visiting Tutor for students training in Special Schools.

Katie Cutmore

Katie CutmoreI have an honours degree in Early Years and have worked in childcare for 13 years.  During this time I have worked with all ages between 6 months to 5 years old and have been a deputy Manager and SENCo at a local preschool and managed a nursery in Maldon.  I have 2 children of my own, who are 6 and 4 years old, who both attend Langenhoe Primary School.  I have recently left childcare and taken an administrative job so I could have more time to dedicate to my children and to allow me to get better involved with their education.  Becoming a Governor was the perfect opportunity to positively impact not just my children’s, but all those who attend Langenhoe Primary School’s education.  I love music and in my spare time I enjoy singing and I perform with Colchester Operatic Society, as well as being a member of their executive committee, managing their website and chairing a social sub-committee.  I have also recently directed a concert for Colchester Operatic Society, which we performed at the Headgate theatre and the Mercury Theatre in June 2017.  I love to learn and look forward to the learning experience ahead of me as a new Governor.
