The Curriculum at Langenhoe Community Primary School and Pre-school
The school follows the National frameworks for Literacy and Numeracy and uses the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) as a guide when planning coverage of the foundation subjects, ensuring that coverage is in line with National Curriculum
The school uses a number of resources and available schemes to plan learning in English and Maths. These are used to set learning that best suits each class and individual pupils. Currently the school uses White Rose Maths materials as its main scheme of work for maths supplemented by other resources in school. In English the school uses a number of different materials to support planning and teaching.
Foundation Subjects are taught through topics. Each topic has a main focus; such as Science, Geography or History. Some topics are taught as whole school units whilst others are taught as class topics. Where possible, links are made to the English and Maths that is being taught in each class. The school uses visitors and trips to further extend pupils experiences.
Our curriculum is inclusive and our commitment to meeting the needs of all our pupils’ means teachers plan lessons that use a wide variety of teaching and learning strategies. Both more able pupils and those with special educational needs, benefit from planning delivered in creative and multisensory ways.
We aim to meet the needs of all children through a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum that encourages academic success. We also provide opportunities for children to experience a sense of achievement through school visits, sport and the creative arts which is central to our successful philosophy of developing children’s self-esteem.
Teaching methods used will vary according to the type of activity or the aims of each particular session. Children are taught as whole classes, in small groups and as individuals. As children learn differently, we aim to provide a variety of learning environments which will enable each child to achieve their potential.
ICT is embedded across all areas of the curriculum. We have interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, portable laptops and i-pads that can be used to support learning in class groups or in small group or 121 learning situations.
By the end of their time at Langenhoe Community Primary School and Pre-school, children become confident, responsible, independent learners, ready for their transition to secondary school.
If you have any questions about the curriculum we follow, please contact the school office or make an appointment to see your child’s class teacher.
