Welcome to Class 5

In Class 5, we endeavour to provide an inclusive learning environment that is stimulating and challenging for all learners. We have high aspirations for every learner and encourage each one to take ownership of their own behaviour and learning.

This term in English, we will be reading ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’ by Emma Carrol, which is a historical novel set in the Second World War. We will be using the text to develop our writing skills across a range of fiction and non-fiction text types, including poetry, non-chronological reports and persuasive letters.

In Maths, we will be focussing on statistics and consolidation of our prior learning using the White Rose Maths scheme of learning. We also use Times Table Rockstars to develop our fluency of the multiplication and division facts, with a KS2 battle taking place each week.

In the wider curriculum this half term, we will be developing our understanding of Evolution and Inheritance in Science and exploring the Anglo-Saxons in History. We will also be practising our performance skills ready for our end of term production, Robin Hood and the Sherwood hoodies, which we look forward to performing at the end of term.

Homework includes weekly tasks from the homework project, reading, spellings and times tables practise. We strongly recommend that children read at home at least four times per week, ideally for 20 minutes each time.

PE lessons are on a Tuesday and Friday.
